บทคัดย่อ:

Soil salinity is an enormous problem for food crop production, especially rice. The objective of this study was to screen for plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) that can induce rice growth under salt stress. First, 15 strains of bacteria from National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and Land Development Department shown to be PGPB were pre-screened by culturing in LB-broth with 2% NaCl. Then, bacteria and rice seed were co-inoculated on the half-strength MS-agar with 1% NaCl. Growth of rice seedling was observed for 10 days. The results showed that plant weight, height and leaf area of rice grown under salt stress decreased, when compared with the control. Three strains of bacteria; Y35-1 (Bacillus amyloliquefaciens), P1 (unknown) and P2 (unknown) were found to promote rice seedling growth under salt stress. Fresh weight was increased by 29%, 27% and 35% while the height was increased by 22%, 18% and 24% as compared to the rice grown under salt stress. This study showed that some bacteria can alleviate the salt effect on rice seedling.
