ศึกษากายวิภาคศาสตร์เปรียบเทียบของพืชสกุลสบูด่ำ (Jatropha L.) ที่พบในประเทศไทย จำนวน 5 ชนิด ได้แก่ Jatropha curcas L. (สบู่ดำ) J. gossypiifolia L. (สบู่แดง) J. integerrima Jacq. (ปัตตาเวีย) J. multifida L.(มะละกอฝรั่ง) และ J. podagrica Hook. (หนุมานนั่งแท่น) โดยวิธีการลอกผิวใบ การทำให้แผ่นใบใสและการตัดตามขวางแผ่นใบ ก้านใบ และลำต้น พบลักษณะร่วมกันของพืชสกุลนี้ คือ 1) รูปร่างของเส้นกลางใบเป็นรูปตัวยู 2) รูปร่างของลำต้นกลม 3) มัดท่อลำเลียงแบบเคียงข้าง 4) ชนิดของปากใบแบบพาราไซติกและ 5) การมีเซลล์นํ้ายาง นอกจากนี้ลักษณะที่สามารถนำไปใช้ในการระบุชนิดพืชสกุลนี้ ได้แก่ 1) การมีหรือไม่มีขน 2) ชนิดของขน 3) บริเวณที่พบปากใบ 4) ลักษณะขอบใบ 5) จำนวนชั้นของเซลล์แพลิเซด 6) การมีหรือไม่มีเซลล์เส้นใย และ 7) การมีหรือไม่มีปุ่มเล็ก

    Comparative anatomy of the genus Jatropha L. (Euphorbiaceae) in Thailand including J.curcas L., J. gossypiifolia L., J. integerrima Jacq., J.multifida L. and J. podagrica Hook. was investigated by means of  leaf epidermal peeling method, clearing method and transverse section of  leaf blade,petiole and stem. Shared characteristics of the genus are 1) the U-shaped midrib, 2) the circular-shaped stem, 3) the collateral bundle, 4) the paracytic stomata and 5) the presence of laticifer. Furthermore, the anatomical characteristics of the genus Jatropha provide features which are taxonomically useful in identification at species level viz. 1) the presence/absence of trichomes, 2) different types of trichomes, 3) the distribution of stomata, 4) the shapes of leaf margins, 5) the number of palisade layers, 6) the presence/absence of fiber cells and 7) the presence/absence of papillae.
